Toyota Cheetahs confirms departing players

The Toyota Cheetahs can confirm the departure of following players at the end of June 2020 of their respective contracts.

Hooker, Joseph Dweba, has left the Toyota Cheetahs to join Bordeaux in France. Working his way up the ranks, Dweba is a proud product of the Toyota Cheetah Academy.  He represented the Toyota Cheetahs in 48 matches in total and was a member of 2019 Currie Cup-winning team.

Three players announced their retirement from rugby.  As it was announced earlier, Gerhard Olivier has hung up his boots due to a serious neck injury.  A knee injury forced Justin Basson to end his professional career.  Basson was a stalwart in 14 Currie Cup- and 25 Guinness PRO14 matches for the men in orange.  After 12 Currie Cup matches, including a Currie Cup win, and 21 Guinness PRO14 games, flyhalf Louis Fouche retired from rugby and will be starting a business in Port Elizabeth.

Rabz Mazwane departs having featured in the 38 amassed appearances for the Toyota Cheetahs.  The winger will be joining the Lions in Johannesburg.

As previously announced, Sintu Manjezi will join the Bulls from the 1st of July and Dian Badenhorst have completed his contract.

Commenting on the departure, Toyota Cheetah Head Coach Hawies Fourie says: “We wish all our departing players all the best for the future. I would like to thank them for their contributions both on and off the field.”
